Sony Seeks to Continue PSN Elegance with 'Rain'

A new six minute video reveals the beginning of the game.

The Sony funded and developed 'Rain' was announced last year at Gamescom, but almost nothing of the game was shared. Now it seems is the time for the PSN title to take shape, both in story and with footage of the title's first stage.

From the PlayStation Blog, "The story of rain is the enchanting tale about a boy who chases after a girl with an invisible silhouette. After discovering that the girl is being hunted by ghostly creatures, he embarks on his own journey into the mysterious world of rain to save her and discovers he has also become invisible. Players will play as the boy, whose silhouette can only be seen in the rain. Using the unique ability to appear and disappear under cover players must learn to navigate through the unknown to advance. Just like in the real world, what can be seen isn’t everything and using imagination is the only way to reveal the truth."

The example gameplay which derives from the beginning tutorial section of the game relates a 3D environment with a fixed camera that moves as the player directs that rain silhouette of the boy from area to area. Rain silhouetted dogs pursue the boy, as the player directs from being visible in the heavy pour of rain to invisible under awnings and bridges, while text floats in the air narrating the story. Sound also plays a pivotal role in terms of the tempo for both the story and gameplay.

'Rain' is expected to be released on the PlayStation Network sometime this year.

A Second Wave of Sony's $10 PSN Credit is Spreading Through North America

The initial wave thanked loyal customers, now others seem to be benefitting.

Last month, Sony very quietly sent out huge batches of $10 credits through the PSN messaging system. The messages described the credit as a "thank you for being a loyal customer and fan of the PlayStation Network." As with similar promotions, users needed to check their PSN message box, and the credit was set to expires unless redeemed and thereby added to the user's wallet. (Banked, rather than spent.)

Reports of a second wave are now cropping up, and it seems that less frequent PSN users are the beneficiaries. It is likely that users are supposed to be encouraged to utilize PSN with the credit, however, if the credit is not added to the user's funds before the expiration date (03/25/13 in the latest instance), then the credit will no longer be available.

The stealthy campaign is considerably widespread, and the best way to check for the credit is through a PS3, PS Vita, PSP. From the XMB the users should navigate to the right towards the XMB inbox.

Expect the store to be inaccessible between 8:00AM PT to 8:00PM PT.

As part of normal practice for Sony's PlayStation Network, the PlayStation Store and Account Management will not be accessible from Thursday morning to Thursday evening due to scheduled maintenance.

Downloaded content, network play, and services such as Netflix should function as normal, but users should be sure to be current on any updates prior to the scheduled maintenance in order to avoid any downtime.

From the PlayStation Blog, "The PlayStation Store and Account Management will not be available during the maintenance period, but you will be able to access online play and apps provided that you have signed into PlayStation Network at some point between now and the time of the maintenance. So please be sure to sign in now if you wish to access the Network during Thursday’s maintenance window."

You'll get a nicely remastered 720p version of the game with better sound, post processing and trophies.

Sony is all about HD remasterings these days, and has just announced the latest in its series of titles that got a little bit of high definition love. 'Killzone HD,' which will be available on PSN October 23rd, has been brought up to 720p and 30 frames per second.

The game also supports a few more graphics features, like MSAA and filtering as well as what developer Guerrilla Games refers to as "higher quality" sound effects. And of course, trophy support will be included.

'Killzone HD' will be $15 when it launches.

PlayStation Network Will Allow for Pre-Loading of Game Purchases

Fri May 18, 2012 at 11:30 AM ET

This way, you can buy and install a game so it's ready to play the moment it comes out.

Pre-loading is something that PC gamers are used to at this point. Buy a game, install the whole thing and then download a small patch when it launches to unlock your content. It's a slick way to make sure that people don't have to wait for their content and servers don't get too horribly bogged down.

The new Move enabled game 'Sorcery' will be the first to utilize the new method of delivery when it launches on May 22nd. The unanswered question at the moment is whether this will allow you to play games at midnight of the launch day or if you'll have to wait for a PSN update.

PlayStation Plus Members Get 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' Free on February 7th

This news also means, of course, that 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is coming out February 7th.

For whatever reason, folks have been keeping quiet about the release of 'The Simpsons Arcade Game.' There haven't been official announcements or trailers and all the information we've gotten up until now we've had to glean from ESRB ratings and the like.

As it turns out, 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' is just around the corner. It's coming free to PlayStation Plus members on the 7th. We can only assume that this news means 'The Simpsons Arcade Game' will be available to everyone else on the same day as well.

There's no word yet on an XBLA version of the game. We know it's been rated and that means that in all likelihood it will be coming, but at this point we don't know when.
