Microsoft Replaces Don Conyer as Project Lead for Xbox 720
Thu Dec 15, 2011 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Xbox 360, Xbox Next, Xbox 720, Industry Trends (all tags)
Conyer is credited for helping launch both the Xbox and Xbox 360.
The next Xbox console is in the works and whether you call it the Xbox 3, Xbox 720 or Xbox Next, it's certainly a system that's going to make a bit impact on the industry. According to Gamasutra though, it's going to do it without the man who helped bring you the Xbox and Xbox 360.
Don Conyer is the general manager of the entertainment division of Microsoft and was the project lead on both of Microsoft's game consoles. He's also the one behind Xbox Live improvements and a unified design for the system.
According to Gamasutra, Conyer won't be leading the development of the next system. Instead, Emma Williams will be taking the lead. She's no stranger to the Xbox - Williams helmed the team that created the latest Xbox interface update.
There's no indication that Conyer will be leaving Microsoft - simply taking on a different role.

Studios Working on Next-Gen Xbox Games for 2012 Console Release
Thu Nov 17, 2011 at 10:30 AM ETTags: Xbox 360, Xbox 720, EA, Ubisoft, Xbox Next (all tags)
It looks like Microsoft will have a head start on the console war again, but maybe not by much.
It's been quite a while since a new console launch was actually considered to be imminent but it looks like the new Xbox will be coming right around the corner.
According to Edge magazine, Ubisoft Montreal and certain EA studios are currently working on games for the next Xbox and are expecting a release date of late 2012. The companies are using computer parts that meet the specs of the hardware and dev kits are expected to be available by the end of this year.
It seems likely that the system will launch in the winter of 2012, which means we can expect an E3 unveiling next year. It's a quick distance between announcement and launch, which is almost certainly a relief for fans who will be eager to get a hold of the new console.
If rumors are to be believed, Sony is planning on bringing out the next PlayStation system at the beginning of 2013. That provides a small window for Microsoft to get ahead in sales, but not a full year like with the PS3 launch.
It's been a while since we've had a really big E3 but it seems we can expect a lot this year.

The Next Xbox Could be Hitting in 2013

If the rumors are true, this will put Microsoft's new console to release a year ahead of Sony's.
Plenty of rumors are flying around about new consoles from Microsoft and Sony, and they have been for a while. It's easy to speculate on the next big launch, but the latest information seems solid.
The folks at Develop have several sources in middleware firms and chip manufacturers that have all confirmed that a new Xbox is on the way. The code name for this project, at least at the moment, seems to be Xbox Next. Expectation is that the console will be unveiled at E3 2013 and made available for Christmas of the same year.
Develop uncovered a bit more information that lends the rumor even more credence. Apparently Lionhead is working on a new 'Fable' game for the new console, Epic Games is working on a new Unreal Engine for a 2014 launch and word is that EA already has a preliminary version of the console in house.
