Earn credits for playing games, renewing Xbox live, and making XBL purchases.
Ahead of the recent changeover from phony baloney Microsoft Points to local currency, Microsoft scuttled its Xbox Live Rewards program, but there was a promise of new program not far off. That new program has launched over at Xbox Live Rewards and the result is both simple and intricate.
As a dynamic program, the ways to earn reward credits can change at any moment, but in essence, purchasing on XBL, renewing Xbox Live and referring friends are the biggest ways to earn. Netting 5,000 credits will trigger a reward of $5 or the local currency equivalent.
From Microsoft, "Xbox Live Rewards is a loyalty program that rewards members for renewing their Xbox Live Gold memberships, playing games, engaging with Xbox Live features, making purchases from the Xbox Stores and more. Earn Rewards Credits just for doing what you love on Xbox Live. Once you rack up 5,000 Credits or more, they'll be converted into your local currency and deposited right into your Microsoft account. Then it's off to the Xbox Stores, where you can spend your money however you'd like!"
One new wrinkle in the program is the concept of punch cards. Punch cards can be completed by purchasing specific things. Right now there is a My Map Pack Punchcard, a My Movies and TV Punchcard, and My Apps Punchcard. Five purchases of the specific item type by the punchcard's end date (October 31st in this case) will trigger the corresponding reward amount.
There is even a reward for playing new 360 games. "For every new Xbox 360 game* you play for at least 10 hours (in a 30 day period), you'll receive 1,000 Rewards Credits."
While the Xbox One-related rewards have not been specifically outlined, the new systems' inclusion in the program seems certain.
