The game coming to the eShop, but the figures maybe more essential than 'Skylanders.'
'Pokémon Rumble U' is headed to North America. While the game will mark the debut of Nintendo NFC-style figures similar to Activision's 'Skylanders' and 'Disney Infinity,' it is actually the third game in the 'Rumble' series.
The game will be sold in the eShop for an accessible $18. The figures though, check in at $4 a pop. The game sees the player pick a Pokémon, and then brawl through arena-style levels using a few simple attacks. Players who have figures can level up the stats in those figures, with the stats stored within the figure's NFC chips.
The ability to collect Pokémon figures may capture the Pokémon magic, but ' Pokémon Rumble U' may be too basic a game to ignite a craze. Of course nothing is stopping Nintendo from reusing the figures in future games. 'Pokémon Rumble U' is the first game to utilize the GamePad's NFC reader, which allows the set-up to omit the base station familiar to 'Skylanders' and the upcoming 'Disney Infinity.'
Both the game and the figures are due to release on August 29th.
