'Desert Bus' Being Remade for VR

Remake will be exclusively for charities.

Penn Jilette, one half of Penn and Teller, has announced on the latest episode of his podcast that he will be teaming up with Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford to remake 'Desert Bus', a game previously included as a minigame in the unreleased Sega CD title 'Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors'. The game is played annually by Desert Bus For Hope, a charity organization run by members of comedy troupe Loading Ready Run. Last year, Desert Bus For Hope played the game for 159 hours straight and $683,700.

Jilette states that the remake will be made exclusively for charities. "I'm working on a game. I'm working with Randy Pitchford, and we're going to do - and this is a big, big deal - we're going to do a new Desert Bus and it's going to be just for charities, so charities can use it to raise money," adding that "It'll probably be agnostic in terms of platforms, and it'll probably be for the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR", and that they'll be working on "a couple other games".

This is very cool to see, it's incredibly rare that a game is made exclusively for charities, and considering how successful Desert Bus For Hope has been, it's great to see it receive official support from someone who created the original game.
