EA Launches Origin Access, the PC Version of EA Access, Includes 15 Games for $4.99 a Month

With EA Access on the Xbox One, users have the option to subscribe and get full access a to a small wealth of EA Games, including recent titles like 'Dragon Age: Inquisition,' 'Battlefield Hardline,' and 'Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare.' For that $4.99 a month subscription fee, users also get 10% off new digital EA releases like 'Star Wars: Battlefront' and get savings on DLC. Even better, users get early access, usually five days, and free game trials. With 'Battlefront,' it was 10 hours of full gameplay access.

EA Access launched on the Xbox One back in August of 2014 after famously being rejected by Sony. Now it seems that the program is coming to the PC. Named after EA's PC game client, Origin, Origin Access appears to quite similar to the Xbox One version.

Right now, at launch, the $4.99 a month option is quite prominent. (It's unclear whether the $29.99 a year option for EA Access will be available for Origin Access). It does seem clear that this subscription is separate from the EA Access. (No one fee for both subs.)

There are the 15 games that currently come with Origin Access. In theory, these titles will never be removed from the Vault. While many of these games are featured in both EA Access and Origin Access, the difference in title availability has made for some variance. For example, no 'Peggle 2,' 'EA Sports UFC,' 'NHL 15,' or 'Madden NFL 25' on the PC. (Also no 'NBA Live.') Most significantly, there is no 'Titanfall' currently in Origin Access. In exchange, Origin Access gets 'SimCity,' all of 'Dragon Age,' all of 'Dead Space,' 'The Sims 3 Starter Pack' (but no add-ons), and 'This War of Mine.'

Other titles included in Origin Access are 'Battlefield 4 (Digital Deluxe),' 'Battlefield Hardline (Digital Deluxe),' 'Battlefield 3,' 'FIFA 15,' 'PvZ Garden Warfare,' and 'Need for Speed Rivals: Complete Edition.'

Now, here comes the big change. Because Origin is a client/store on its own, Origin Access members get 10% off on all Origin purchases. That includes third-party non-EA games and sales and promos. As for the Trials, EA is already teasing a 10 hour Play First Trial for the upcoming 'Unravel.' That means that Origin Access members will be able to play the platformer early, and for 10 hours without having to buy the game. If after that, they choose to purchase, they'll get 10% off, and their progress will carry over.

Now, I don't know this for certain, but 10 hours of 'Unravel' will likely go a long towards beating the game. Likewise, 10% off all Origin purchasers as well as Vault Access ought to entice hordes of players.
