Nintendo to Release 'Pokémon Red' and 'Blue' New 3DS Bundles

Nintendo announces various plans to celebrate Pokémon's 20th anniversary.

Nintendo has announced today that they will be releasing 'Pokémon Red' and 'Blue' New 3DS bundles on February 27th, to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the franchise. The bundles will include 'Pokémon Red' and 'Pokémon Blue' pre-installed, two cover plates with artwork from the original games, as well as a download code for an exclusive menu theme. The games themselves will also be made available on February 27th.

Additionally, to further celebrate the 20th anniversary, Nintendo will be re-releasing certain 'Pokémon' amiibo (Charizard, Jigglypuff, Greninja, and Lucario) at certain retailers, and 12 different 'Pokémon' feature films will be digitally remastered and released on Amazon, Google Play, and iTunes beginning this month and continuing throughout the year.

The New 3DS bundle had previously been announced for Japan, but no word of a Western release was given until now. It's a very nice bundle that's certainly enticing, though. Nintendo's going all out with 20th anniversary plans, which is nice to see, and I personally wouldn't be terribly surprised if we see a new game announced within the year. That said, this year will also be bringing us 'Pokémon Go' and 'Pokken Tournament', so even if nothing new is announced, it's a good year to be a 'Pokémon' fan.
