And the game's mobile spin-off may get the credit for giving them the idea.
After saying years ago that their hit platformer 'Super Meat Boy' would not be getting a sequel, developer Team Meat has seemed to soften on that front after working on the 'Super Meat Boy Forever' mobile spin-off.
In an interview with Game Informer, Team Meat's Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes revealed that some aspects of gameplay in the mobile game were seen as mechanics that could translate well to a full sequel of the brutally difficult platformer, and it inspired discussions about bringing the series back for another round.
Though McMillen clarified that the future of the franchise is still "up in the air," he nonetheless said that a sequel is certainly possible, saying, "We wouldn't even be mentioning anything about a sequel if we didn't feel like it was realistic enough."
