It's not just a perk for the Elite.
Xbox One owners will soon be able to remap the buttons on their controller no matter what version of the controller they have, according to Mike Ybarra, Xbox's director of program management.
With the Xbox One's premium Elite controller (which will be reconfigurable) hitting shelves at the end of the month, one fan reached out to Ybarra over Twitter to ask why this feature, which he noted now comes standard on the PS4, was seemingly only available for the pricey Elite upgrade. Ybarra responded that every controller will be getting this feature "soon."
@StavEllis @XboxP3 It’s coming for all controllers soon.

The $150 Xbox Elite controller offers more than just custom button configuration. The premium product includes customizable thumbsticks and D-pads, along with support for four paddles on the back of the controller.
