Use the power of golf to destroy castles.
Criterion Games co-founders Fiona Sperry and Alex Ward, best known for their work on the 'Burnout' franchise of racing games, started their own studio last year called Three Fields Entertainment. Today, the studio has announced 'Dangerous Golf', a game that seems to take a surprising amount of inspiration from 'Burnout' despite the totally different genres.
The game sees you playing golf in order to cause the most destruction on over 100 holes in 4 different locations. The studio definitely acknowledges the influence their previous work has had on them, saying "It's as serious a golf game as Burnout was a serious simulation to driving games. We wanted to mix the attitude of Burnout with the destruction of Black whilst setting the golf ball on fire — a nod to NBA Jam. This type of gameplay is part of our DNA, and something we think our fans will truly enjoy."
You aren't competing for the lowest number of shots here, but rather dollars worth of damage as a high score, where players are rewarded for their trick shots and ricochet skills, but also for turning your golf ball into a bomb and using it to wreak havoc. As the ball gets faster, it sets alight, causing even greater destructive possibilities. The game will be released in May 2016 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
It sounds like a fun game from some extremely talented people. To this day, Burnout remains one of the only racing franchises I've been able to enjoy, and seeing that studio apply their expertise to something like this is an exciting prospect.
