Express Your 'Mega Man' Love By Diving into '20XX,' Which is 25% Off Right Now[teaser]The Early Access is buttery smooth.[/teaser] Once known as 'Echoes of Eridu,' '20XX' is a game in the vein of 'Mega Man' and 'Mega Man X,' except it's also a roguelike and it offers local and online co-op play. At 25% off right now (through February 12th), this particular joy can be had for only $8.99 right now (see here). Personally, I thought '20XX' would be a bit diverting, something along the lines of the fun 'Noitu Love 2,' but instead, '20XX' is so wonderfully modern. It's like finding the updated 'Mega Man' to complement '9' & '10.' The feel of the weapons, the enemies, the bosses, and the levels is so smooth. The wall-jumping and just feel of different surfaces alone is a big feature. Having different base and special weapon variety is huge, and goes so well with the roguelike mechanics. The game is described as a co-op roguelike jump 'n shoot, and those aspects are key for navigating the procedurally generated levels. (We still get to pick bosses!) It may be Early Access right now, but the game is very far along. Oh, and did I mention there is a casual mode? The visuals alone look great on PC. Post Kickstarter ($20.551), Batterystaple Games is continuing their comparatively light funding by way of Early Access purchases. The flip side of this is that the game is already robust, but should only get bigger. We will have a full preview in future, but don't hesitate to jump in now. Amazon Unveils Lumberyard Game Engine[teaser]Amazon releases their free game engine.[/teaser] Amazon, continuing their foray into the games industry, has released their new game engine called Lumberyard. The engine is totally free (including the full source code) for developers and has full AWS Cloud and Twitch support to help build stream integration into gameplay. Amazon will also be providing access to GameLift, their multiplayer service. The only payment lies with what AWS features individual developers choose to use. This certainly looks pretty, and the pricing scheme seems very fair. It'll be interesting to see if this takes off in future, with Unreal 4 and Unity being as accessible as they are. Still, this definitely seems to be an engine worth keeping an eye on. Source: AmazonPosted Tue Feb 9, 2016 at 08:50 AM PST by: -
Climb the Food Chain as Takkar in 'Far Cry Primal.'[teaser]Use your owl buddy.[/teaser] I have to admit that 'Far Cry Primal' has been pretty low on my radar. That ends today. Seeing Takkar struggle with and against, animals, fire, and rival tribes, and suddenly my interest level has skyrocketed. By rescuing his fellow tribe members and building up the village, Takkar will bring some order to a primal setting. I especially like the idea of rescuing the specialists through which he gains new techniques. It won't be long now before the first current gen only 'Far Cry' is available to play. 'Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter' Hits PC and Consoles in May[teaser]8th Sherlock Holmes game out soon.[/teaser] Bigben Interactive and Frogwares have revealed a release date of May 27th for the upcoming 'Sherlock Holmes The Devil's Daughter', which is set to hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Additionally, screenshots for the game have also been shown off. Bigben Interactive describes the game as follows: "Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter, the eighth game in the series, is an incredible adventure game with unique gameplay blending investigation, action and exploration for an extraordinary experience that will test the limits of players' nerves and intelligence. Playing as the great detective, they will have to track down evil in the darkest corners of London and the human spirit, freely exploring several neighbourhoods in the city in search of clues and suspects while they untangle a web of intrigue leading to the final stunning revelation. Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter offers unique game mechanics and an epic storyline for an interactive and immersive experience unlike any they have ever had before. For the first time, the powers of analysis and composure of Sherlock Holmes will be shaken by emotion as he is caught between family, dark forces and powerful thirsts for vengeance…." I've never played a game in this franchise, but I've heard nothing but good things as of the last few entries, so maybe this will end up being the first one I pick up. 'Final Fantasy IX' Now Available on Mobile[teaser]Steam release due soon.[/teaser] Today, Square Enix has released their classic PS1 JRPG 'Final Fantasy IX' on iOS (buy it here) and Android (available here). It'll launch at the 20% discounted price of $16.99 and will stay that way until February 21st. This port, which is also due for release on PC soon, contains various tweaks to the original game such as achievements, speed increases, encounter rate modifiers, autosave, and HD character models. While the price might seem a tad steep for the mobile version, 'FFIX' really is an outstanding game, possibly one of the best RPGs ever. I'll personally be waiting for the PC release, but to have this game on the go, $17 is more than worth it. Here's hoping the PC release arrives as soon as possible. 'Downwell' Heading to PS4 and Vita[teaser]Confirmed in a Japanese sizzle reel.[/teaser] Last year's 'Downwell' turned out to be an indie hit when it launched on PC and mobile, and now it's finally on its way to PS4 and Vita, as confirmed by a Japanese sizzle reel for the PlayStation YouTube account, which you can catch below. A game about falling down a well, defeating enemies and collecting money as you go, 'Downwell' has a high skill ceiling, but is simple enough that anyone can get into it pretty much immediately. It's a fast, fun game that really would do well on console or handheld, and I'm really looking forward to giving it a shot on Vita. Source: SonyPosted Tue Feb 9, 2016 at 07:46 AM PST by: -
The Blood-Sucking Haementeria Joins 'ARK: Survival Evolved' While the BattlEye Anti-Cheat System Hits Official Windows Servers[teaser]Remove it with precision bladework or open flame.[/teaser] Wow, what a duo of additions for 'ARK: Survival Evolved.' First off, in terms of creatures, the Haementeria Laetus is one great big leach that is practically blameless in its brainless drive for blood. Not only does it suck it blood from its host, but the loss causes hunger, loss of health and lowered stamina. Oh, and it can transmit the dreaded 'Swamp Fever' disease, which requires rare medicine to cure. It's too basic to tame; however, its venom can be processed into a powerful anti-venom. Removing the creature once its attached requires "precision bladework or access to an open flame." Speaking of leeches, Studio Wildcard has a new plan of action for stopping cheaters, and that comes via the BattlEye Anti-Cheat System, which is being deployed on all official servers. This will require running a different .exe, the aptly names ShooterGame_BE.exe. Unofficial Windows servers can also use BattlEye by using the -BattlEye launch option. Mac/Linux support of BattlEye is in the works, and once that is added, things should be much better all-around. 'ARK: Survival Evolved' is in Early Access on PC and Xbox One, and is coming to PS4 later this year. Order from Amazon Source: Studio WildcardPosted Mon Feb 8, 2016 at 10:00 PM PST by: -
