'Yooka-Laylee' New Characters Revealed, Including Shovel Knight Cameo[teaser]What, you're not friends with a sentient cannon?[/teaser] Today Playtonic Games, the developer behind the upcoming 'Banjo-Kazooie' spritual successor 'Yooka-Laylee,' released a "character parade" video for the game, revealing a whole cast of unique characters and a cameo from one of indie gaming's star children, Shovel Knight. Beyond the chameleon/bat title combo, 'Yooka-Laylee' will be home to characters like Trowzer, the snake that wears pants for some reason; Dr. Quack, a duck stuck in a gumball machine; and Kartos, an animate mine cart. And that doesn't even touch the rapid-fire reveal of yet-unnamed characters like a pogo stick knight and a skeleton that seems super chill about the fact that his lower half is being boiled into some sort of broth. Of course, the real reveal of the video was the Shovel Knight cameo. Although his role and the extent of his appearence isn't really discussed in the video, at least it seems like these indie platformers are getting along. 'Yooka-Laylee' is set to release early next year. You can catch the "character parade below." Source: Playtonic Games (via Polygon)Posted Sun Sep 25, 2016 at 11:09 AM PDT by: -
New 'Minecraft' Video Details Upcoming Add-On Mod Feature For Windows 10, Pocket Editions[teaser]Coming October 18.[/teaser] A form of modding is coming to 'Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition' and 'Minecraft: Pocket Edition' as part of the Boss Update coming October 18, and Mojang has released a video to get everyone familiar with the idea before launch. 'Minecraft' Add-Ons, as they are called, will be a way for creative 'Minecraft' players to alter the form, appearance, and behavior of the game's mobs. As the video below shows, this can take the form of everything from titanic yet pacifist Creepers to devastatingly explosive pigs. These Add-Ons can be inserted into 'Minecraft' worlds and then enjoyed alone or with a multiplayer party. Mojang will be demonstrating just how much these Add-Ons can alter the pace of the game with two sample Add-Ons that will be available once the Boss Update launches. The Alien Invasion Add-On, shown off at E3, has players defending a location from aliens, while Castle Siege will allow players to choose sides and either attack a well-defended keep or man the battlements and keep the invading force out. You can catch the Add-On introduction video below. Source: MojangPosted Sun Sep 25, 2016 at 09:24 AM PDT by: -
'Civilization VI' Minimum Specs Announced; Devs Detail Changes To City Population And Warfare[teaser]Can you build a PC that will stand the test of time?[/teaser] 'Civilization VI' developer Firaxis took to Twitch to show off the game's revamped combat and city growth mechanics. Not long after the game's official minimum and recommended PC requirements were revealed on Steam. Games designers Ed Beach and Anton Strenger used the game's freshly revealed Roman Empire to show off 'Civ VI' city combat mechanics. One notable change from its predecessor is the game's city siege mechanic. When a city is appropriately surrounded by enemy units, it is considered besieged and will no longer recovering health points between turns. The demonstration then turned to a save file for the game's Kongo civilization for a crash course on city growth. New to 'Civ VI' is a resource called Housing, which can be cultivated by building specialized city districts. Players will need to provide their cities with both enough Housing and enough Amenities (luxury resources like tea) to avoid penalties to city growth. High population will be key to developing powerful cities since each city will only be able to build one district for every three levels of population it contains.
