Coming this November, 1TB 4K HDR PS4 Pro Now Available to Preorder at $399[teaser]November 10th.[/teaser] It's been a big day for Sony. There is the new slim PS4, which will replace the existing launch model at $299. (See here). There is the news that all PS4s will be getting HDR support. (See here). But biggest of all is the new PS4 Pro console, which had been codenamed "Neo." (See all of the announced PS4 Pro features here.) The new console will support 4K and HDR for games and video (but sadly not Ultra HD Blu-ray, see here). The new console will support all PS4 software past and present, and will offer enhanced performance for specific titles (some old like 'Uncharted 4,' but mostly in a going-forward manner.) The PS4 Pro is being offered in a 1TB with a price of $399 and a launch date of November 10th. Following the official announcement of the console, the PS4 Pro is now available to preorder. The Sony PS4 Pro Does Not Support Ultra HD Blu-ray[teaser]The song remains the same with Sony.[/teaser] Today, Sony announced both new hardware and new features for existing hardware. For example, all PS4s will be getting HDR support. (See here). The slim PS4 will replace the existing launch model. (See here). And of course, a new console, the PS4 compatible PS4 Pro will bring 4K to players this year. (See here.) That new console will support a new 4K HDR Netflix. But what's missing from this line-up of features and hardware? Ultra HD Blu-ray Support. As Sony has maintained for past year, they are interested in streaming video to the extent that physical 4K media is not a priority. In contrast, Microsoft already has an Ultra HD Blu-ray capable console on the market in the Xbox One S. (See here.) So although the PS4 Pro has HD10 support, and 4K gaming ready to go for new TV owners (and current home theaters), the omission of Ultra HD disc support is disappointing to say the least. The PS4 Pro is a 1TB console and offers a $399 price point. No doubt the price played a role here. Order from Amazon Source: SonyPosted Wed Sep 7, 2016 at 01:18 PM PDT by: -
Don't Throw Out Those Launch PS4s, "Every PS4 Will Be HDR Capable"[teaser]Huge for the HDR movement.[/teaser] After announcing the 4K and HDR capable PS4 Pro, (see here), and the replacement, "Slim" PS4 (see here), Sony followed with its long dormat weapon. That would be an HDR update to all existing PS4s. Earlier in the presentation, Mark Cerny made the point that HDR wasn't hardware tacing in the way that 4K is. With the announced update, Sony will prove a committment to delivering HDR gameplay. Source: SonyPosted Wed Sep 7, 2016 at 12:42 PM PDT by: -

Sony Announces PS4 Pro, Will Support Both 4K & HDR[teaser]Will be sold alongside the slimmer PS4.[/teaser] $399 - November 10th. Forget Neo. Sony has finally revealed a more powerful PS4, one with 4K HDR features as well as more HP for HD and VR. The name is PS4 Pro. Notice anything missing? That would be Ultra HD Blu-ray. Sony continues to treat the format in absentia. In terms of HDr, the PS4 Pro supports HDR10. The PS4 Pro will have a baseline of 1TB of storage space. The PS4 Pro will support all existing PS4 games, but in many games, there will be a performance increase. (Or if you will, an increase in visual fidelity, so by way of super sampling.) Some examples include 'Paragon,' 'Shadows of Mordor,' and 'For Honor.' Those are just examples, but it means that the PS4 Pro will be important for HD TV owners. (Improvements to existing titles will be enabled via patches. Sony has a half dozen first party games ready for this.) Naturally PlayStation VR titles will benefit from the PS4 Pro's extra power. The PS4 Pro has a 4.2 TFLOPS AMD GPU to go with the tweaked CPU and standard (for PS4) GDDR5 8GB memory. This array of hardware would suggest that 4K gaming will be more about upscaling in terms of AAA games. As announced, all PS4 titles will be playable on PS4 Pro and the PS4 consoles. Activision announced that 'Infinite Warfare,' 'Modern Warfare Remastered,' and even 'Black Ops III' (via update) will support the PS4 Pro (as in the extra HP of the PS4 Pro). Sony also announced that specifically 'Uncharted 4' will be getting PS4 Pro support via patch. 'Mass Effect Andromeda' will support PS4 Pro. When it comes to 4K video streaming, Sony has promised a new 4K HDR enabled Netflix for launch. A YouTube app is in the works. But what about those lanuch PS4s? And what about the slim replacement PS4? Sony has some plans there as well. All PS4s will be getting HDR support. (See here). Unlike the new PS4 slim, the PS4 Pro will have an optical audio port to go with its single HDMI port. In addition to the two front USB ports, there will be a third USB port in the rear. A new/tweaked, replacement DualShock4 will be included with the PS4 Pro. Nintendo Announces 'Super Mario Run' for Apple Phones[teaser]Will have a set price and battle mode.[/teaser] Today, during the Apple Special Event, Nintendo announced their first mobile game, 'Super Mario Run for iOS. The game has Mario automatically moving from left to right in the vein of an endless runner, but the levels are not procedurally generated. The player will make Mario jump (and do other moves), and as Nintendo pointed out, this means that the game is playable with one hand. The game is not free to play. It will have a set price and competitive elements. 'Super Mario Run' is promised for iPhone and iPad for December 2016. The Toad Battle mode looks pretty interesting as it pits players against other player's ghost performances. To really do well, players must try aggressive moves, which will make Toads appear that can be collected. Toad Battle Mode: Here is Nintendo's official description of 'Super Mario Run': Super Mario Run has a mode in which the player collects coins and heads for the goal, and a mode in which the player competes against the acrobatic moves of other people who have completed the same course. In addition, there is a mode in which you create your own Mushroom Kingdom based upon these play results. iOS users will be able to download and enjoy a portion of Super Mario Run for free and will be able to enjoy all of the game content available in this release after paying a set purchase price. More details will be disclosed at a later date. The game has been developed with Mr. Miyamoto as lead creator for Nintendo. Nintendo is also continuing its partnership with DeNA for the launch of Super Mario Run. It will be offered on the App Store this December in more than 100 different countries, and nine different languages. The announcement of 'Super Mario Run' came direct from Shigeru Miyamoto, who was an early highlight of the event. Nintendo also announced that iMessage stickers featuring Mario will be coming later this month. Source: ApplePosted Wed Sep 7, 2016 at 10:11 AM PDT by: -

But, naturally, this'll be taking place at noon Pacific/3 Eastern, many folks will be stuck at work. Fear not. As I'll be in the building, there will be a Twitter livepost on this page starting shortly before the event with as many details and reactions as possible. Both are embedded below.
