New 'Berserk' Trailer Shows Off Berserker Guts[teaser]Multiple levels of berserking.[/teaser] Today, Koei Tecmo has released a new trailer for Omega Force's upcoming 'Berserk' action game showing off protagonist Guts in the Berserker Armor, which gives its wearer high levels of strength, but can drive them insane. In the game, it seems to be a temporary buff that dramatically changes up the moveset of Guts. You can check out the new video right here: This does look better and better with each tiny piece of footage the publisher shows off. The dripfeed of new info is a tad irritating, but with how terrific this is looking, I don't mind. I'm excited to check this out when it releases later this year on PS4, PS Vita, and PC. 'The Last Guardian' Delayed to December[teaser]A few extra months needed to ensure polish.[/teaser] Today, Sony has announced that Fumito Ueda's upcoming PS4 adventure game 'The Last Guardian' will not be hitting its expected October release date, and will instead be released on December 6th. Sony states that, as the game entered its final stages of development, they encountered more bugs than expected, and pushed the game back to ensure it releases in a polished state. Fumito Ueda (gen Design) and Japan Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long. A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues. Our development continues to push itself to the fullest and we look forward to revealing new content toward launch. This is a smart move for them. Sony has a fair amount riding on this, and making sure it releases in its best possible state is vital. Either way, I'm excited to play this when it hits later this year. 'Mass Effect Andromeda' Developer Talks Story Details, Exploration Focus[teaser]A family affair.[/teaser] The male and female leads of 'Mass Effect Andromeda' will be two different characters, a brother and sister pair, according to an interview with the game's creative lead. Talking with PlayStation Access, 'Mass Effect Andromeda' creative lead Mac Walters revealed that the player character Ryder will actually be a brother and sister duo, with the player deciding which they want to play as. Unlike in previous games in the franchise, where there is only one player character with player-decided gender, in 'Mass Effect Andromeda' both the male and female leads will exist in the world simultaneously. If the player opts to explore the galaxy as the female Ryder, the male Ryder will still be in the universe alongside her. As a small bonus, Walters also revealed that the armored figure from the game's E3 2015 reveal trailer is the siblings' father. The brief interview, set over the footage from the game's 4K announcement, also touched on the exploration aspect of 'Andromeda.' Whereas in the original 'Mass Effect' trilogy, the player was more or less confined to exploring a few hub worlds and linear levels, 'Andromeda' will give the players more exploration leeway with tools like the scanner. 'Pokémon Go' Update Adds Buddy System, Pokémon Go Plus Support[teaser]Prove that your Pokémon are more than just numbers in a Pokédex.[/teaser] Developer Niantic is now rolling out the latest update for 'Pokémon Go,' which adds both support for the long-awaited Pokémon Go Plus accessory and the recently revealed Buddy feature. Back at the beginning of the month, Niantic announced a Buddy system for 'Pokémon Go' that allows trainers to select one lucky Pokémon to become their Buddy and earn extra Candy just for walking together. Your Buddy Pokémon will appear next to your avatar icon on the game's map screen, so you always know which Pokémon is earning a little bonus Candy while you're out hatching Eggs. This new update also adds support for the Pokémon Go Plus accessory, launching this week. This peripheral allows players to leave their phones in their pockets while still farming Pokéstops and even catching Pokémon with the press of a button. PSA: 'Overwatch' Is Free To Play This Weekend On Xbox One/PS4[teaser]Clear your schedule.[/teaser] There are numerous folks out there who didn't catch the Beta, weren't weaseled into the multiplayer sensation by friends, didn't catch a copy falling off a truck who have yet to find themselves playing 'Overwatch' at ay point in the last few months. Well, this weekend, Blizzard would like to invite the rest of you folks to jump on the hype train. Right this very second, PS4 and Xbox One owners currently have the ability to download a little thing from their respective stores called 'Overwatch: Free Edition'. It's a full-fledged version of the game, with all 22 heroes, 13 maps, and ton of modes to play around with completely free all weekend. Well, mostly free: Xbox folks do have to have a Gold subscription. Still, this is a tremendous chance to put some serious time into the game, decide if it's worth the full $60 wallet suck. Even better, if you do decide it's worth it, any upgrades, leveling, loot crates, customization items, and progress made in this version of the game will, in fact, carry over to the full version. The free edition will remain open for business until 4PM Pacific on Monday. Go nuts. Fly Me To The Moon: 'Bayonetta' Goes Backward Compatible On Xbox One[teaser]The witch is back.[/teaser] It's been somewhat quiet on the Xbox One backward compatibility front since 'Red Dead Redemption' finally hit, though scattered smaller titles still get quietly added with some regularity. That sense of quiet is about to get busted up, but good: The original 'Bayonetta' is now a backward compatible title. It's exciting enough just by nature of easy access to one of the best action games of the last ten years. Add in the fact that this would be the best possible version of the game. The PS3 port currently available on PS Now still a broken, glitchy mess. The WiiU port, as good as it is, is digital only, unless you want to blow $100 on the now-out-of-print first run of 'Bayonetta 2', and requires using the clunky gamepad, unless you wanna blow $50 on a Pro controller. Meanwhile, the 360 version gets the blessed upscaling of the One S for those who have it, and the use of the best controller for the job. Nobody's tried it out to see if the Xbox One takes a bit out of the game's load times, but that'd be the icing on an extraordinarily badass cake. One of the Most Significant Games in the Modern Era Will Return with 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered'[teaser]Bigger than a generation.[/teaser] Editor's Note: The screens shown here, except as marked, are from the original PC version running on current hardware. This past weekend, at the Call of the Duty XP, Activision once again presented an example of a current trend in the industry, a remastered older game meant for the current platforms. But in a sea of remasters, 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered' is a rare example. Since 'Remastered's original reveal, I've constantly encountered a suite of familiar questions from the community and from the industry. And now, Activision has for me, addressed two major ones, the maps and the MP. There was the limitation of ten multiplayer maps for the remaster, but now, with an additional six maps promised post-launch, the game's official map support in terms of remastered originals appears to be in good shape. And good shape is where the entire multiplayer mode seems to be. Bringing this multiplayer back in a playable showcase at Call of Duty 2016 might seem like softball move, but many "casual" 'Modern Warfare' players have poured 100+ hours into the multiplayer. Attendees were scouring for remaster flaws, but coming up empty. ("The green is too green," is one I heard.) I've been surprised to see players who are surprised by some of the various returning features, such as the Last Stand perk, and yet, I think the faithfulness and intrinsic fun is there for all to see. But what I don't want to get lost within all the minutiae that is easily discussed from with the 'Call of Duty' community and with the audience that has been following both 'Remastered' and 'Infinite Warfare' is just how significant 'Modern Warfare' was and still is. 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare' easily ranks right up there with edible classics such as 'Half-Life,' 'Metal Gear Solid,' 'Grand Theft Auto III,' and 'Metroid Prime.' And while there have been plenty of good 'Call of Duty' games in the series, 'Modern Warfare' easily takes the cake in terms of memorable characters, missions, and a host of less tangible elements. Revisiting 'Modern Warfare' is akin to studying a masterwork that is still imitated (ineffectively) to this day. Remastering such a classic is no sure thing. We don't need to go far to see some extremely popular games that returned on new platforms with a bit of a thud. ('Twin Snakes,' 'The Master Chief Collection,' and 'Silent Hill HD' for example) The developer of the remaster, Raven Software, is no stranger to working on 'Call of Duty,' and they have the wealth of support (and critique) available via the rest of the Activision stable of developers. Straddling that line between faithful and updated is tricky. And adding to the possible greatness and possible folly, Activision has announced that 'Modern Warfare Remastered' will have PS4 Pro support. The original 'Modern Warfare' is widely available on multiple platforms, and could be appreciated in the way that I am suggesting via the original releases. (I purchased the Steam version when it became available for just a reason.) And yet, a high profile remaster, one that is bundled with 'Infinite Warfare,' will put 'Modern Warfare' in more players' hands and, importantly, more new players' hands, than a sale on the original version on the original platforms. (Though it's always fun to run the tutorial.) 'Modern Warfare' is select in that way where it's one of the few games that I think is worth sharing with my dad or with my friends who play one game every couple of years. It was worth it on release, and it's worth it now. You can find the latest info on 'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare' linked from our Video Game Release Schedule. While the video shows Crash's appearance in 'Imaginators' and in the Thumpin's Wumpa level, it's important to remember that we've all already gotten to play as Crash on the PS4, courtesy of the Drake family. Bethesda vs. Sony: No Mods for Either 'Fallout 4' or 'Skyrim Special Edition' on PS4[teaser]And this looks like the end.[/teaser] Today, Bethesda announced the cessation of effort on their part in terms of mod support of the PS4. This applies specifically to 'Fallout 4' and to 'Skyrim - Special Edition,' the latter of which is not even out yet. Mod support had long been promised for 'Fallout 4,' and the game has mod support on both PC and the Xbox One. In the announcement, Bethesda reiterated their position that mod support is ready, but that Sony is unwilling to approve user mods in "the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition." It would seem that this is the end of the possibilities in terms of mod support for either title. According to Bethesda's message, Sony is blocking mod support and Bethesda has given up on Sony changing that position. While Bethesda has apologized for promising such a feature and not being able to deliver, the developer/primary publisher did leave the door open provided that Sony changes their position. Here is the full announcement: After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition. Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available. We will provide an update if and when this situation changes. Meanwhile, Microsoft is enjoying the fruits of their relationship with Bethesda.
