'Rime' Finds Itself a New Publisher and a 2017 Release Window[teaser]Release platforms still unknown.[/teaser] Publishers Greybox and Six Foot have announced that they will be jointly publishing Tequila Works' upcoming adventure game 'Rime' sometime in 2017. While the game was previously a PlayStation exclusive, Sony dropped the license and returned the rights to the developer, so it's entirely possible that it may see release on other platforms now. Further details about the title have yet to be announced, but Tequila Works have described the game as follows: Rime is a single-player puzzle adventure game about a young boy shipwrecked on a mysterious island after a torrential storm. Players must use their wits to decipher the challenges and secrets of an expansive world strewn with rugged terrain, wild creatures and the crumbling ruins of a long-forgotten civilization. With subtle narrative, colorful cel-shaded artwork and a sweeping score, Rime offers players a meaningful journey filled with discovery. Last time this was really shown off, it looked extremely charming, but I do worry if something might have turned out poorly with the title at some point given Sony dropping the license to it. Fingers crossed this turns out as good as it looks when it hits next year. Source: Tequila WorksPosted Thu Aug 11, 2016 at 07:16 AM PDT by: -
Latest 'Mafia III' Trailer Gives Us a Look At The City of New Bordeaux[teaser]The first trailer in a six-video series.[/teaser] 2K Games has released a video detailing the 10 districts that make up New Bordeaux, the recreation of New Orleans that makes up the setting of the upcoming 'Mafia III'. From the protagonist's home of Delray Hollow, through the secret KKK district of Frisco Fields, to the bustling Downtown area. It's a surprisingly diverse city and a really cool trailer, which you can get a look at right here: This is looking really terrific. I wasn't fond of 'Mafia 2', but with a really cool setting, and the bold way this is tackling the themes it's presenting, I'm really excited. I hope it doesn't devolve into shock value, but if this turns out well, it could turn out fantastic when it releases on October 7th. Source: 2K GamesPosted Thu Aug 11, 2016 at 06:59 AM PDT by: -
'Gwent' Beta Delayed to October[teaser]Geralt continues to be a tease.[/teaser] CD Projekt RED has delayed the Closed Beta for their upcoming card game, 'Gwent: The Witcher Card Game.' The beta, which was originally supposed to start in September, has now been delayed to October 25th. The Polish developer has explained that the delay is because "[they] can make a first impression only once," and that the studio prioritizes delivering a good experience to players above hitting a date. Based upon the popular 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' distraction of the same name, 'Gwent' looks to flesh out the card game into a standalone experience. It'll also step into the competitive collectible card game market that is currently dominated by Blizzard. Much like their competitor 'Hearthstone,' CD Projekt RED's card game will be free-to-play on all platforms. 'Gwent's Closed Beta will only be for Xbox One and PC players, and will be testing cross-platform play between the two versions. The full game will also be releasing on PlayStation 4, so it'll hit all of the platforms that 'The Witcher 3' came out on in 2015. 'Quantum Break' Coming to Steam, Getting a Physical Release[teaser]Nordic Games is publishing.[/teaser] Remedy Entertainment's third-person shooter, 'Quantum Break' (review here) that blends television and video games together will soon be available to more players. Publisher Nordic Games announced today that they have teamed up with Microsoft and Remedy to release a physical version of the game called the 'Quantum Break: Timeless Collector’s Edition.' That's not the only noteworthy announcement, as Microsoft also announced that a Steam release for 'Quantum Break' will be released on the same day — September 14th. Retailing at $39.99, the physical release will contain the game (on five separate discs and a onetime steam code), and a bunch of extras. These include a Blu-ray disc that focuses on the game's development, a soundtrack CD, an art book and a double-sided poster. This isn't the first time that Nordic Games have teamed up with Microsoft, as they previously brought physical versions of 'Alan Wake,' 'Ori and The Blind Forest: Definitive Edition,' and 'State of Decay: Year One' to PC. 'Quantum Break' originally released on PC and Xbox One on April 5th, but the PC port was plagued with performance issues. The physical and Steam versions will include the latest patches for the shooter, and will work with more operating systems than the Windows 10 exclusive release. Remedy has stated on Twitter that the new PC versions will "run on Windows 7 and up." ‘Quantum Break: Timeless Collector's Edition' will release September 14th on PC. Make sure to read High-Def Digest's review to find out more. You can find the latest info on 'Quantum Break' linked from our Video Game Release Schedule. Olympic Furor: Check Out the Original Dream Team & the 2016 Team Trading Poses in 'NBA 2K17'[teaser]'92 team only included in preorders.[/teaser] The 2016 Olympics are occurring right now in Rio, and if need a break from all the swimming, there is of course basketball. But what Olympic basketball needs are two serious competitors. That's basically what 2K is pitching with 'NBA 2K17.' The 2016 USA Men's National Team, including Coach K, comes with the game. Preorders get the '92 team, the original Dream Team. So that means that preorder players can play the '16 team against the '92 team. That is what is being showcased the trailer below. No doubt, the '92 team is about as iconic as it gets. I hope there winds up being a way that non preorders can get the team, because it really does seem like a can't-miss. The current team isn't a throw-in, but it's having both teams that makes having the '16 make sense. And as a reminder, preorders will be playable 4 days early during the NBA 2K Early Tip-Off Weekend. The normal release date is September 20th. You can find the latest info on 'NBA 2K17' linked from our Video Game Release Schedule. It'll cost $24.99 and will be available for pre-order on the Limited Run website on August 19th at 7AM PT. There are only going to be 6900 copies in the initial batch, so for those interested, it's best to get in on this as quickly as possible. 'Shadow Complex' set the bar for XBLA games back when it first released, and getting to own a packaged version of it is very cool. Square Enix Graphics Designer Manabu Daishima Passes Away[teaser]Aged 45.[/teaser] Manabu Daishima, a Square Enix Graphics Designer best known for the field graphics in 'Chrono Trigger' and the map and background design in 'Final Fantasy XII' passed away on July 30th in a diving accident, he was just 45 years old. He was diving with two other people when he lost consciousness four meters below the surface, he was found by the others and pulled up, though he had already passed away by that point. Though it's likely that many haven't heard of Daishima, it cannot be understated just how influential and important his work has been for JRPGs as a whole. 'Chrono Trigger' remains aesthetically distinct to this day, and a large part of that is owed to him. While 'FFXII' is often divisive, it has an immediately terrific look thanks to his work on the game. His influence can be seen in so many JRPGs in the 90s and 2000s, and his work undoubtedly resonates with thousands of people today. He will be sorely missed. 'NASCAR Heat Evolution' Will Feature 40-Player Online Multiplayer[teaser]Burning rubber on console and PC.[/teaser] The first NASCAR game on Xbox One and PS4 will allow gamers to experience the thrill of racing against dozens of other human drivers. ‘NASCAR Heat Evolution’ developer Monster Games announced today that their upcoming racing simulation will let up to 40 players join the fray online. There will be three different lobbies for aspiring racers to battle it out in: No Rules, Normal and Hosted. No Rules will remind players that rubbing is racing as it offers up a more laidback approach where players can horse around more while competing. Normal on the other hand is for serious racing, as players will be punished if they don’t race cleanly. Finally, Hosted will let players customize the settings to their own standards (such as booting players from the match or making players be a minimum level in order to complete). Other options such as the number of laps and tire wear will also be available, making ‘NASCAR Heat Evolution’s gameplay as realistic as the players want it to be. No matter which lobby a player chooses to participate in, they'll end up earning points that will go towards their skill level. This will make sure players are matched up against equally as talented racers. Monster Games, who developed the Nintendo Wii launch title ‘Excite Truck,’ also put out a brand new developer diary that details the upcoming racing game’s modes, including the aforementioned online play. ‘NASCAR Heat Evolution' will release September 13th on Xbox One, PC and PS4.
