'Akiba's Beat' Delayed to Early 2017 in The West[teaser]Early 2017 gets a little more packed.[/teaser] XSEED Games has announced that 'Akiba's Beat', the upcoming action-RPG from Acquire, will not be hitting its expected 2016 release date, and has been delayed to early 2017 outside of Japan. No reason was given for the delay, but as the game was hit by a minor delay in Japan to December 2016, the localization was likely affected as a result. The publisher has also released a new trailer for the game which you can see right here: With so many games getting delayed to early 2017 as of late, it's looking like it'll be quite a packed season, wth games like 'Kingdom Hearts 2.8', 'Persona 5', and 'Nioh' already expected for that timeframe. Still, delays are almost always a good thing, and I'm excited to try 'Akiba's Beat', so here's hoping it's for the best when it launches on PS4 and Vita. 'Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization' Post-Launch DLC and Updates Detailed[teaser]A ton of free and paid content.[/teaser] Bandai Namco has revealed a bevy of details andd post-launch plans for 'Hollow Realization', the latest game based on the hit anime series 'Sword Art Online', which is set to launch in the US on November 8th on PS4 and Vita. you can catch the latest trailer for the game right here: The game will be receiving numerous free updates that will add quests, storylines, and areas. The first free update, tentatively titled 'Fighters of the Blue Sky' will launch in 2016, adding a new story involving the characters Rain and Seven from 'Lost Song'. It is said to last around 20 hours and will heavily relect user feedback for the base game. Additionally, there will be both paid and free DLC, with free DLC including things such as new quests. Paid DLC will take the form of the 'Shrine Maiden of the Abyss' storyline which will be split into three separate episodes that will launch in 2017. The game will have a season pass, however the specifics of what it includes are not yet clear. Still, it's reasonable to assume that it will at least include all the episodes of the DLC storyline. I'm genuinely really excited for this. I'm not a fan of the anime series at all, but 'Hollow Fragment' was a flawed, but remarkably ambitious game that I ended up loving a great deal, and this seems to double down on what I loved about that while removing what dragged it down. If the post-launch support for 'Hollow Fragment' is anything to go by (it dramatically increased the game's level cap and added around 50 hours of new content, all for free), everything discussed here should be very substantial. 'Star Wars Battlefront: Death Star' DLC Gameplay Trailer Shows Off Space Battles, Chewbacca[teaser]I suggest a new strategy. In addition to a couple of new weapons and items, the 'Death Star' DLC pack includes five new maps that allow players to fight in the belly of the Death Star or even try their hand at completing the X-wing trench run from the end of the original movie (in Luke Skywalker's Red Five X-wing, no less). Also new to the 'Battlefront' party are Heroes Chewbacca, with his iconic bowcaster, and Bossk, best known as a bounty hunter that isn't Boba Fett. You can see all of the new content for yourself in the trailer below. The 'Star Wars Battlefront: Death Star' DLC is already available to those with the game's season pass. Capcom Announces Sequel For 'Ace Attorney' 19th-Century Spinoff[teaser]Though series fans may object to the original's continued absence from Western shelves.[/teaser] At this year's Tokyo Game Show, Capcom announced that a sequel is in the works for 'Great Ace Attorney,' a 'Phoneix Wright' spinoff that takes place during the Japanese Meiji period (rougly equivalent to the English Victorian era). The spinoff stars defense attorney Ryūnosuke Naruhodō, an ancestor of mainline series lead Phoenix Wright, and is set in both Meiji Japan and Victorian England. The sequel's announcement trailer also reveals the return of a steampunk-y Sherlock Holmes and his young assistant, the 10-year-old girl genius Iris Watson, both of whom were featured in the first game. The original 'Great Ace Attorney' remains unreleased outside of Japan, but you can still catch the sequel's reveal trailer below. Kojima Productions Announces (Fairly Unhelpful) Release Window For 'Death Stranding'[teaser]Sometime between tomorrow and four years from now.[/teaser] Hideo Kojima's next game is set to release sometime before the summer of 2020, according to announcements made at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Hideo Kojima took to the E3 stage this year to announce his first post-'Metal Gear Solid' game, titled 'Death Stranding,' with a surrealist trailer starring Norman Reedus, dead marine life, and some sort of newly born baby that can turn into oil. Now, Kojima has revealed the game's release window, though, in true Kojima form, it's not terribly specific. Taking to Twitter with a recap of the show's announcements, Kojima Productions announced that the game will release before the Tokyo Olympic Games, set for the summer of 2020, and "before the new Akira." If Kojima is referring to the live-action Akira remake, that could prove to be even more unhelpful than the Olympics date, as the film has been in production hell since 2008. IGN points out, however, that Kojima could be referring to the 1988 animated movie, which was set in 2019. If that is the case, we could see 'Death Stranding' a full year or more before the Tokyo games. In all likelihood, Kojima is just being facetious and not actually trying to target a specific date. Still, feel free to set your alarm for July 24, 2020, the date of the Tokyo Olympic Games opening ceremony. Before the Tokyo Olympic Games. Before the new Akira. https://t.co/PEuuP8FRfL — Kojima Productions (@KojiPro2015_EN) September 18, 2016 The Twitter account also mentioned the possibility of a (yet uncasted) female lead for the game and that the game will be "fully playable in single player" while including "a new form of co-op play." Blizzard Opens Up Paid BattleTag Name Changes[teaser]Though everyone still gets one for free.[/teaser] Blizzard now allows players with Battle.net accounts to purchase the opportunity to rename themselves even after they've used their one free name change. BattleTags—players' digital pseudonyms in the Blizzard online community—have traditionally been fairly permanent, with the publisher only allowing players one free name change before their moniker was effectively set in stone. Now, if players have already used their freebie but still hate their online identity, they can pay $10 for the chance to rename themselves yet again—not an insignificant price for something as purely aesthetic as a fake name but perhaps still worth it for players who have matured far past whatever names their 10-year-old selves came up with years ago. Newly created accounts still have that one free name change available, and players who haven't yet used theirs still have that option as well. Here's 15 Minutes Of 'Metal Gear Survive' Footage[teaser]When there's no more room in Outer Heaven, the dead will walk the earth.[/teaser] In case anyone was still suffering from the faint delusion that what they saw a while ago is, in fact, a real thing, and not just a Reddit meme someone modded out of 'Metal Gear Solid V' assets, Konami is here to tell you today that yes, 'Metal Gear Survive' is a real thing that is about to happen. For further proof, they've posted 15 minutes of raw gameplay from the game. In it, we see 4 Outer Heaven soldiers, stranded in an alternate dimension with a horde of very angry zombies with very glowy weak points. We have stealth kills, we have sheep being Fultoned as bait. We have, well, a lot of 'Metal Gear Solid V' assets being put to very different use, all right. Have a look below. 'South Park: The Fractured But Whole' Moves To The City Part Of Next Year[teaser]The lofts at Q1 '17.[/teaser] As is seemingly the way of things for pretty much every major title this year that isn't 'Call of Duty', 'South Park: The Fractured But Whole' is vacating its original December release date for sometime in the first part of 2017. No new official date has been announced yet, but as per usual, Ubisoft states "The development team wants to make sure the game experience meets the high expectations of fans and the additional time will help them achieve this goal." It's for the best, really. Nobody was gonna be done with 'Final Fantasy XV' by December 6th, let's not even kid ourselves.
