Action RPG 'Earth's Dawn' Out This Week on Consoles[teaser]Xbox One version releases tomorrow.[/teaser] Oneoreight Studios' 'Earth's Dawn' is now available in North America. It's out today both digitally and physically on PlayStation 4, but will also see a digital release on Xbox One tomorrow (November 2nd). Published by Rising Star Games, the side-scrolling action title will blend combat with role-playing game elements. Players are able to customize their character's weapons and abilities, allowing them to tailor the gameplay to match their individual play style. This is Halloween: See How Halloween Unfolds in 'Hide and Shriek'[teaser]Scare your way to victory.[/teaser] As tempting as it is for me to dismiss 'Hide and Shriek' as a game for streamers, 'Hide and 'Shriek' has proved its worth. (See the review here.) And with this being Halloween, why not spend a moment pointing out one of the few smaller PC games of late that actually delivers on its concept. 'Hide and Shriek' is multiplayer only, and its 1v1 gameplay challenges players to not simply scare their friends. Rather, it's the fear of competition that ought to be used. These traps and pop-up frights are the tools of the winning side. While I think 'Hide and Shriek' is a perfect Halloween diversion, I'm betting that it'll be an even better diversion come Thanksgiving and into the holiday month at the end of the year. ('Hide and Shriek' is on sale for $4.79 on Steam, see here.) Source: FuncomPosted Mon Oct 31, 2016 at 08:58 AM PDT by: -

The Nintendo Switch And 3DS Can Coexist, Says Nintendo President[teaser]Nintendo isn't ready to let the 3DS go just yet.[/teaser] Nintendo's newly revealed console, the Nintendo Switch, isn't meant to be a replacement of the 3DS, according to Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima. In an interview with Bloomberg, Kimishima said that the 3DS hardware will still have a life after the release of its upcoming console, which can convert from a TV-connected system to a handheld device. "Thanks to our software, the 3DS hardware is still growing," Kimishima said. "So that business still has momentum. And certainly rather than being cannibalized by the Switch, we think the 3DS can continue in its own form." The interview also touched on why the Switch's announcement video focused on young adults instead of Nintendo's usual family-oriented branding. "Our core philosophy is that we want to increase the number of gamers at all ages, and there's no change to that," Kimishima said "So we have no intention to lean just towards core gamers. But to communicate our new idea, when you think about who will understand it first, naturally it will be people who really understand games. To communicate that as quickly as possible, we focused on those folks who really understand games." Nintendo plans to reveal more about the Switch—including pricing, software, and a release date—in January. Source: Bloomberg (via Eurogamer)Posted Sun Oct 30, 2016 at 09:39 AM PDT by: -
Steam's Halloween Sale Has Begun![teaser]Terror and hubris in the house of Gabe Newell![/teaser] Now's the only legitimate time to be 24-hours-a-day obsessed with horror and mayhem, and not be instantly added to an FBI watchlist with your name surrounded by a ton of asterisks, so Steam's timing is impeccable, offering a slew of horror titles for super cheap over the Halloween weekend. A lot of usual suspects make the cut this time, with the 'Metro' games, 'Resident Evil 4' and '5', and Telltale's 'Walking Dead' games for $7. Required plays like 'Amnesia: The Dark Descent', the 'Dead Space' games, and 'Outlast' are $5 each. It's the hidden gems that should grab your attention this time, though, with the classic 'Sanitarium' , the 'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.' games, and the gloriously unsettling 'Oxenfree' selling for $5 each. Head on over to Steam to load up. Sale runs out on November 1st. Source: SteamPosted Sat Oct 29, 2016 at 07:09 AM PDT by: -
The 'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Terminal Tours Messenger' is Live Now, But Will You Survive?[teaser]Combat Rigs, mission teams, maps and modes.[/teaser] Activision has a new way for fans to take a tour of 'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare,' and the results are both deadly and funny. With Alana as a guide (Kate Micucci), this not-so-safe tour is interactive and delivered (of all possible, unexpected methods) via Messenger. (See here.) Beyond the antics here, this Messenger-delivered tour is something interesting, and I suspect we will be seeing more of it very soon. It's pretty clear that fans enjoy getting to talk to Messenger bots made in the mold of game characters, so why not do more? From Stan Chudnovsky, Head of Product, Messenger, "The success of Activision’s Call of Duty bot for Messenger was exciting - it demonstrated that people want to interact with the brands and businesses on Messenger. Fans will love this new experience just as much. This is another good example of how brands can continue to use bots on Messenger to engage and excite their users.” Here are some screens from my Terminal Tour: And later on... And it got more brutal from there. Still, it's a tour worth taking, especially to see just what 'Infinite Warfare' is like in Messenger. 'Titanfall 2's First DLC Map Releases Next Month for Free[teaser]Go back to Angel City.[/teaser] One of 'Titanfall 2's key selling points is that the game won't have any sort of season pass for downloadable content. In fact, all of the game's maps, modes and major updates will be completely free. Respawn's shooter seems to be taking the route that 'Rocket League' has taken, and is hoping its multiplayer community sticks with the game due to free updates. This philosophy is in stark contrast to other popular first-person shooters as games like 'DOOM,' 'Battlefield 1,' and 'Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare' all feature maps. 'Titanfall 2' will show off this new philosophy next month as its first DLC map, Angel City, releases November 28th to those who pre-ordered the game. Other players will have to wait until December 2nd to play the returning map, which was a fan-favorite in the original game. 'Titanfall 2' is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
