'Darksiders' Heading to PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U[teaser]Due out in the last quarter of the year.[/teaser] Having previously released current gen versions of 'Darksiders 2' with the 'Deathinitive Edition', Nordic Games has announced that they will also be bringing ports of the first 'Darksiders' to PS4, Xbox One, and Wii U sometime during the last quarter of 2016 and will cost $20. No further details have been revealed, though online integration was mentioned in some capacity, likely just for Miiverse support. Though both games are rather good, I think I prefer the first 'Darksiders' to its sequel, as it's a more traditional 'Zelda'-esque romp as opposed to the sequel's almost 'Diablo'-esque focus on loot drops, so I'm pretty glad it'll be getting a port in the near future. 'Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate' and 'WWE 2K16' Lead August's Games with Gold[teaser]And from the 360 side, it's 'Spelunky' and 'Beyond Good & Evil HD'.[/teaser] The Xbox Games with Gold program is looking pretty good for August. On the Xbox One proper, the two games are 'Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate' and 'WWE 2K16.' But really, with the two 360 titles, 'Spelunky' and 'Beyond Good & Evil HD,' being playable on the Xbox One, this is a nice foursome. 'Beyond Good & Evil HD' being free for Gold members on the 360 and Xbox One ought to help Ubisoft gauge whether or not the series should return. It's interesting to note that the video contains a whale, almost certainly a reference to Moby Dick, which was a major plot point of 'Metal Gear Solid V' You can check out the video right here: Additionally, while the panel was light on details regarding the upcoming game 'Death Stranding', it was revealed that the sequence shown it the E3 trailer will be part of the main game when it eventually releases. 'Trials Of The Blood Dragon' PC Version Is Completely Free For Those Who Can Master The Demo[teaser]You've got a week to get good.[/teaser] Ubisoft has announced that players can earn a free copy of 'Trials of the Blood Dragon' on PC if they can demonstrate their skills in the game's demo. If players can finish the demo for this unexpected mashup, available to download now via Uplay, with 15 or fewer faults, they'll get the full PC game completely free. Players have until July 31 to rise to the challenge if they want to save the $15. Announced at this year's E3, 'Trials of the Blood Dragon' is a kind of crossover game between Ubisoft's 'Trials' motorcycle series and the standalone 'Blood Dragon' expansion for 'Far Cry 3.' It combines the 2.5-D gameplay of 'Trials' games with the oversaturated 80s aesthetic of 'Blood Dragon.' Source: UbisoftPosted Sun Jul 24, 2016 at 10:01 AM PDT by: -

Next 'Paragon' Patch Aims To Balance Casters And Rangers, Nerf Rampage[teaser]With match length tweaks coming down the line.[/teaser] Version 29, the next patch for the Epic Games MOBA 'Paragon,' is on the way, and coming with it are some balances to two of the game's classes and a nerf for one of the game's beefier fighters. Like the patch notes for any MOBA, the change list for 'Paragon' v.29 includes plenty of balance changes. This week, the focus is on the game's caster and ranger classes. After the last 'Paragon' patch cut down casters' basic attack damage scaling (to encourage them to use more abilities in taking down opponents), players started having trouble last-hitting minions as casters in the early game. To fix this, the upcoming patch will increase casters' basic attack per level damage, the thought being that this will allow casters to farm in the early game without heavily changing their role in the late game. Another side effect of the last patch's caster nerf was that the game's ranger class, meant to be most useful in the late game, became more effective in the early game. To correct the scales, the upcoming 'Paragon' patch will reduce the health of rangers to make them a bit more vulnerable early on in a match. The last big change in the upcoming patch is a nerf for Rampage's ultimate ability, decreasing its duration and its health regeneration, hopefully bringing the character's win rate below its current 60 percent. The blog post about this upcoing patch also noted that the developers are working on further decreasing average match length and creating a system whereby players that start a match at a disadvantage due to an inactive player can leave the match without a penalty. You can read about the upcoming 'Paragon' changes, reasoning behind past changes, and plans for future changes in the developer post here. 'Injustice 2' Goes Red, White, And Blue With Two New Characters[teaser]Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle join the fray.[/teaser] Let it not be said Ed Boon is not a man of his word. After a sneaky tease on Twitter earlier this week, Netherrealm dropped the news that Wonder Woman and Blue Beetle would be joining the 'Injustice 2' roster. That brings the current list up to eight, including Batman, Superman, Supergirl, Aquaman, Atrocitus, and Gorilla Grodd But of course, it's always better to just see the two in action, and the new trailer certainly has plenty of that, with Diana and what we can assume is Jaime Reyes (Diana calls him a child here) throwing down in Metropolis here. Take a look below. Source: NetherrealmPosted Sat Jul 23, 2016 at 10:57 AM PDT by: -
The Xbox One S Will Support HDR10, But Dolby Atmos, Direct Bitstreaming, & DTS:X Support Remain Elusive[teaser]More things to consider for UHD users.[/teaser] October 26th 2016 Update: Audio bitstreaming has been promised as "coming soon" in an official announcement. That means Dolby Atmos support. (See here.) August 2nd Update: We've reviewed the 2TB Xbox One S (see here) and gone deeper into the Ultra HD Blu-ray and 4K video streaming experience (see here). Ever since Microsoft unveiled the Xbox One S publically at the Xbox E3 2016 briefing, there have been questions regarding the system's UHD support. (See here.) With the new system tantalizing close to being in High-Def Digest hands, finding out how the system stacks up against both the original Xbox One and UHD HDR components like the Samsung UBD-K8500 is closer than ever. For now, however, we do have the go-ahead to share some important answers that should intrigue those of among us who are early adopters of home theater tech. While it may seem like a given considering that the system supports Ultra HD Disc playback, we can confirm that the Xbox One S will support HDR10. When asked about HDR10 and Dolby Vision support, a Microsoft Spokesperson responded, "The Xbox One S support HDR10 standards." Inquiries regarding specific app support were met with the same answer, which lends credence to the idea that streaming UHD HDR support for the current stable of important video apps will be based on HDR10 but may not be ready for the system launch on August 2nd. In all likelihood, the Xbox One S will not support Dolby Vision-based HDR. This adherence to HDR10 only would put the Xbox One S in the same camp as the Samsung UBD-K8500. (At the very least, the Xbox One S will have 4K streaming from Netflix and Amazon.) The current Xbox One does not support direct bitstreaming for audio formats. This limitation prevents users from enjoying the object-based audio formats, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. For now, it seems that the Ultra HD Blu-ray playback of the Xbox One S will carry with it a similar limitation. When asked if the Xbox One S support direct bitstreaming, Atmos, and DTS:X, a Microsoft Spokesperson responded, "Support for Dolby Atmos, Direct Bitstreaming and DTS:X is something the team is exploring but we don’t have anything to share just yet." It's worth pointing out that I don't know of any specific hardware limitation that prevents either the Xbox One of Xbox One S from supporting direct bitstreaming. (And yes, direct bitstreaming was a feature that came with the PS3 slim.) While Atmos tracks on Blu-Rays and Ultra HD Blu-rays have blossomed in number over the past 18 months, we're still less than two years from the format's Blu-ray introduction. Currently, DTS:X is only available on a handful of discs and AVRs, but that will change in the coming months. If Microsoft could come through on Atmos and DTS:X support in the next few months, it would be greatly appreciated. A timeline and intention to support those formats could be given at any time, and ought to alleviate some of the frustration surrounding this issue. Along these same lines of the Xbox One S media capabilities, Microsoft has nothing new to share with regards to a new Microsoft-produced media remote. "As far as a new media remote, we’re always looking for ways to create the best experience for fans but haven’t announced anything to date." That leaves companies like PDP on the hook for creating a media remote to beat the 2014 Xbox One Media Remote. While these may not be the answers that I would have preferred, my current feeling about the Xbox One S beyond an overall new tech anticipation is a desire to see its HDR gaming capabilities put to work. We are looking at a TV environment where HDR will be in all models, or at least in all 4K models. Having HDR as a console feature could prove to be a consideration before too long. Through The Dark, To The Light: Sega Unveils Two New Sonic Games At Comic-Con[teaser]Insert "iwanttobelieve.jpg" here.[/teaser] Welp, the rollercoaster begins anew, folks. New 'Sonic' game is announced, brief period of hype that "this isn't like the bad ones, we swear", followed by the first signs of trouble ("Sonic's a werewolf!", "Shadow's got a gun!", "Why is he wearing a frakking neckerchief?"), and the inevitable disastrous comedown upon release, promptly forgotten when the next one is announced. So, here we are, presented once again, after the trashfire that was 'Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice', with two new Sonic titles....and you should absolutely, 100% be hyped about them. The first title announced is 'Sonic Mania', which will be a sort of 2D Sonic remix where old stages will be redesigned, and bolstered by a few completely new, insane-looking stages. In case you're grumbling about how "just okay" 'Sonic 4 Episode I' and 'II' were, the key factor you should take solace from in the trailer below is the card with Christian Whitehead's name on it. Whitehead is the dude responsible for helping Sega remaster 'Sonic 1', '2', and 'Sonic CD' on previous gen, adding new characters, graphical effects, and fixing glitches. In the case of 'Sonic 2', he even completed and restored the Hidden Palace Zone, which had been famously scrapped from the original game late in production. Apparently, Sega felt confident he could handle a new 2D Sonic on his own. It looks a lot like they were right. 'Mania' is due out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC next Spring. The other project is currently untitled, going by the moniker "Project Sonic 2017", but basically everybody has been calling it exactly what it looks like: 'Sonic Generations 2'. The trailer doesn't have any true gameplay, just a snazzy CG trailer showing nu-Sonic and old-school Sonic hauling ass towards two city-sized, laser-shooting robots. But then, Sega didn't have to. 'Generations' is basically the game that, for 5 years, has kept hope alive. Because it is a legitimately GREAT Sonic game, where the 2D stages are lightning fast and fun, the 3D ones are cohesively designed in a way depressingly few 3D Sonic games have been, the speaking characters were kept to a blessed minimum, and when the game does stop to let the characters interact the game's goofy sense of humor actually works. Seriously, the post-credit scene, with old and new Dr. Robotnik arguing with himself, feels like something Tim Schafer would write. And Sega is telling us we're getting more of that. Somewhere, someone at Sega is actually listeing to their disgruntled fanbase. And that could be good news for everybody. We'll find out Holiday 2017, when 'Sonic Generations 2', 'Project Sonic', whathaveyou hits on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and, interestingly, NX.
