'Silent Hill: Book of Memories' Delayed Until October

Tue May 15, 2012 at 11:30 AM ET
Tags: Silent Hill, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, PlayStation Vita (all tags)

For a horror game, the new release date seems appropriate.

Remember when the PlayStation Vita game'Silent Hill: Book of Memories' came out in March? No? That's because – completely unannounced at the time – it was delayed. Konami doesn't have an exact date yet, but they're shooting for an October release.

'Book of Memories' isn't your typical 'Silent Hill' game. It features an isometric view and focuses on multiplayer gaming, rather than the survival horror that's more commonly associated with the series.

Skype Comes to the PlayStation Vita

It's a natural addition to a device with a rear facing camera and Wi-Fi connectivity. Now where are our PSone Classics?

The PlayStation Vita just got a nice upgrade that gives users the ability to communicate with friends and family across the world – Skype. While it's a bit more counter-intuitive on TVs, the Wi-Fi/3G connected device with a rear facing camera is a natural for the service.

Skype will work both over 3G and Wi-Fi, and can run in the background of most games, but not all. If you're called during a game, answering it will pause what you're doing so that you can return to the game after you've hung up.

Skype should be available now, though Sony says it may take a day or two to finish rolling out to everybody.

'Metal Gear Solid HD Collection' is Coming to the Vita this Summer

Mon Mar 12, 2012 at 10:30 AM ET
Tags: Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, PlayStation Vita (all tags)

It's not as complete a collection as other version though, and is missing 'Peace Walker.'

Vita fans are soon going to be able to get their stealth action fix with the 'Metal Gear Solid HD Collection,' a title that's been out on home consoles for a while now.

Going portable, you'd expect to lose a bit of graphical fidelity and see a drop in audio quality, but you're losing content as well. 'Metal Gear Solid 2' and 'Metal Gear Solid 3' are included but the one title actually made for a portable system, 'Peace Walker,' is absent.

Konami says you can expect the game this summer. Amazon is guessing at a $39 price point, which seems just about right.

'Ridge Racer' Hits the Vita on March 13th with Free DLC

Tags: Ridge Racer, PlayStation Vita (all tags)

The first batch of 'Ridge Racer' physical copies will include extra tracks and cars - same with digital versions.

The Vita just doesn't feel like a Sony system without a 'Ridge Racer' game, and while our friends in Japan and Europe are already enjoying the latest installment in the racing franchise, we've had to sit and wait. As it turns out, we won't be waiting for too terribly long, as 'Ridge Racer' for Vita comes out on March 13th.

New copies of the game will come with a code for some free DLC that includes five new cars, three new courses and three additions to the soundtrack. Those that choose the downloadable route instead won't be left out - just buy the game by April 30th and you'll get the bonus.

Sony's Vita Event Streams Live on March 9th - Will Reveal New Games

Fri Mar 02, 2012 at 11:30 AM ET
Tags: Sony, PlayStation Vita (all tags)

The company will be revealing new games, apps and maybe more.

If you're a Vita fanatic, or if you just happen to be up early/late next Friday, you can check out Sony's live stream of PlayStation Vita Game Heaven. The event is being held in Japan at 8pm, which means east coasters awake at 6:00am on Friday can tune in, while West coast folks will have it to watch at 3:00am. If you're in the middle, you can math out the difference yourself. Simply pop on over to the Game Heaven site when the time comes.

We're going to go ahead and assume that the broadcast will be entirely in Japanese, but videogames are a language all their own, and we'll certainly be able to get a solid look at what's in store for Vita owners. Sony says there are at least 70 games in the works, so there's definitely a lot to see.

We're also hoping that we'll finally see PSone Classics coming to the Vita. That would certainly make PS3 and PSP owners happy, especially if they sunk money into games they'd like to play in a portable form.

PlayStation Gamers' Choice Awards 2012 Start Today

Tue Feb 28, 2012 at 10:30 AM ET
Tags: PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation Network, PlayStation Plus, Videogame Awards (all tags)

Winners in each category will be available for 30% off for the week after the awards are announced.

If you want to throw in your vote for the best games of the year, jump on to PSN today and make your picks. There are ten categories this year and voting in each one will earn you a background for your XMB.

Categories include the expected like Best PSN Game and Best PSN Exclusive as well as some categories you won't necessarily expect like Best 3D Game and Best PlayStation Classic.

No matter whether the games you chose win or not, you'll be in for a potentially very cool sale. Each category winner will be discounted by 30%, which increases to 50% for PlayStation Plus members. The unintentional consequence of which may be that people vote for games they don't own and haven't played in hopes of getting the discount.
